Sandwell-based aluminium recycling company Alutrade is now sponsoring FareShare Midlands to donate 1,120 meals each month as part of a new Corporate Partnership.
Alutrade was founded in 1987 and is a successful family-run recycling organisation. During the COVID19 lockdown, Alutrade donated tablets and cases to primary schools to benefit local children. Proud and grateful to have successfully navigated the pandemic, Alutrade now want to give even more back to the local community.
Every day FareShare Midlands receives good quality surplus food from retailers and suppliers, which might otherwise end up in landfill. The food is sorted and stored by teams of dedicated staff and volunteers and then redistributed through a network of local charities and community groups such as community centres and cafes, pantries, hostels, before and after-school clubs and churches. The food is then used to support people facing challenging circumstances and living in poverty. This work is more important than ever as COVID19 continues to have far-reaching implications for jobs, the economy and the wellbeing of local people.
The Alutrade Board was introduced to the work of FareShare Midlands through a personal connection of an employee. With the organisation’s environmental problem to a social solution, the Board decided FareShare was the perfect fit for their charitable plans.
FareShare Midlands Director, Simone Connolly said “we are so grateful to Alutrade for becoming our latest Corporate Partner. Their regular donation will help our members in their fight against food inequality and hunger. We look forward to developing a long and fruitful relationship with the whole team”.
Alutrade’s Commercial Manager Ed George said “our company’s ethos is to reduce waste in a sustainable way – our goal is zero to landfill, so the FareShare approach matches our philosophy. We are passionate about the local community and hope by supporting FareShare Midlands we also help local families in need. We are already planning on bringing staff into the warehouse to volunteer for a day. This is just the beginning of our journey with the charity”.
